Derek Rutherford - Author, Musician, Photographer

Derek's first live performance dates back to around the time when the Beatles finally split (which was probably nothing to do with Derek's first live performance!). This first performance  was a memorable version of Home On The Range played on two clarinets (only one by Derek) at the junior school orchestral show. There were other tunes played that night - but the terrifying duet is all that remains in the memory (as an aside, Derek still has the clarinet!).

Derek's first rock'n'roll show was a few years later at the tender age of 15 in the halcyon days of punk rock. The highlight of that show was the fact that someone actually recognised one of the tunes (for completeness, it was a Ramones song).

Since then, many bands have come and gone as have many shows including biker rallies, radio interviews, sessions, a slot at Glastonbury, too many New Year's Eves to count, birthdays, weddings, theatres, festivals, pubs and bars and snooker halls, and so on. There have been a few decent songs written, and a lot of indecent ones.

These days Derek can be found playing the occasional solo finger-picking guitar gig, often playing a set of his acclaimed original material, adding lead guitar parts to other people's performances, performing with the unique duo Delboy and Dave, and writing songs.

Also, please check out the song linked at the bottom of the page. You might even like it!

And why not check out Deloftheshire on You Tube in the meantime.
